Authorities say the victim was asleep at the time, and suffered severe burns to approximately 50% of his body. He also suffered a two-inch laceration atop his head, which investigators believe may have been from possible blunt-force trauma. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Santa Monica police are still searching for the perpetrator. A suspect seen in the area at the time of the attack has been described as a man standing between 5’6” and 5’8”, wearing a hat, white long-sleeved t-shirt, and dark shorts.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to contact Detective Ismael Tavera with the SMDP’s Criminal Investigations Division at (310) 458-2256, or the Watch Commander at (310) 458-8427.
