A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspects who fatally shot a father of four in Los Angeles.
Juan Luis Marquez was killed on Aug. 16, 2025, around 9 p.m. in the alley behind his home on Hooper Avenue near 81st Street. Detectives said the Marquez family heard the car alarm going off. Juan Luis and his son went to check it out and saw a group of teens trying to steal their car.
“When they confronted the three juveniles, a fourth juvenile standing near the south end of the alley produced a fire and shot at Juan Luis and his son, striking them both,” L.A. County sheriffs' Homicide Lt. Steve DeJong said during a press conference on Thursday.
He said Juan Luis was shot in the chest, while his son was shot in the leg. Lt. DeJong also said that Juan Luis had a legal gun of his own and fired several shots at the teens before he died in the alley.

“It's possible one of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound or a grazing wound from Juan Luis's fired bullets and then was taken out of the county for medical treatment or is self-treating their injury,” Lt. DeJong continued.
The teens took off in a burgundy Kia K5.
“Perhaps a neighbor had a similar-looking vehicle that is no longer around,” Lt. DeJong said. “Maybe it's parked, concealed on a driveway. The vehicle may have been struck by Juan Luis's gunfire, so perhaps it was recently taken to a body shop for repairs. Perhaps it was stolen from a community member and recovered without police involvement.”
