THOUSAND OAKS (KNX) – One student present during the Westlake High School crash that killed one teenager and injured three others recalled having to dive out of the way to avoid being hit.

Gabrial Guardado told KNX News he was feet away when 24-year-old Austin Eis drove a car into a group of high school students Tuesday night.

“Me and my friends would leave by the bus stop and so we had to dive out the way so we couldn't get hit,” he said.

Guardado also expressed sympathy for 15-year-old Wesley Welling, who died following the crash.

“It’s just horrible for a kid who still had his whole life ahead of him to just have it taken away from him like that and for the parents especially I can't even imagine how tough,” he said.

Three others were injured in the crash. Their conditions at this time are unknown.

A fundraiser was held Sunday night in Agoura Hills to raise money for Welling’s family and for the families of the kids injured in the crash.A GoFundMe was created for Welling’s family as well.

Eis was booked into Ventura County Main Jail Wednesday morning. He was charged with murder, as well as four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, use of pepper spray, second-degree commercial burglary, first-degree residential burglary, false imprisonment by violence and three misdemeanor counts of brandishing a knife, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
