LOS ANGELES (KNX) - A woman was arrested at L.A. City Hall this morning on suspicion of stealing another protestor's property: a swastika sign.

Herman Herman, who is known for his frequent protests at city meetings, told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener that before the start of Friday’s City Council meeting, someone grabbed him from behind and took his “free speech sign.” The sign featured a swastika.

Several LAPD officers surrounded a woman and escorted her outside of council chamber, where she was asked whether she took Herman’s swastika sign. She denied the accusation. Officers told her repeatedly that she could be arrested for stealing someone else’s property.

The woman, who gave her first name as Bex, told KNX News that she was detained for “allegedly” taking the sign, but was eventually released after some discussion with the officers. She said she didn’t know where Herman’s sign was.

After being released, Bex returned to the council chamber. However, just before the meeting was called to order, several officers came into the chamber and arrested Bex for alleged theft.

This is the third arrest inside the L.A. City Council chamber this year. The first two were connected to protests against Councilmember Kevin de León, who has defied calls to resign over his participation in the leaked racist audio tapes last October.
