The crash occurred at 5:14 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Avenue I and Kingtree Avenue, according to Det. Ryan Ament of the Lancaster Sheriff's Station.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the female adult pedestrian was walking southbound across Avenue I outside of a marked/unmarked crosswalk," Ament said.

She was struck by a silver Honda SUV that was westbound on Avenue I, according to Ament. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to contact authorities or render aid to the woman.

The woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, he said.

It was unknown if speed or impaired driving were factors in the crash but the investigation continued, Ament said.

Anyone with information was asked to call traffic investigators at the Lancaster station at 661-948-8466.
