Liam Rader is well-known in his community of Ramona for regularly setting up his lemonade stand in the same spot each week to raise money for a dirt bike. Earlier this month, Liam experienced the unthinkable as a man drove by Liam’s stand, loaded it in the back of his pick-up truck and drove off.
“I don’t know why he would do it,” Liam told San Diego’s NBC 7. “It was just like, I didn’t know people could be so cruel.”
After learning about Liam’s story via social media, KSON’s John and Tammy: San Diego’s Morning Show felt inclined to help and restore Liam’s faith in his community. On Friday (9/20), John and Tammy, as well as the entire KSON team helped Liam host “The World’s Largest Lemonade Stand,” to support him getting his business back on its feet and continue raising money for his dirt bike.
Word of “The World’s Largest Lemonade Stand,” made its way to Scotty McCreery via the free Audacy app and the Country star decided to take things up a notch by purchasing Liam his very own dirt bike.
“I like to think that there’s a lot of great people out there, but every now and then you hear something that does stink,” Scotty said when calling into the event. “I wanted to call in and offer a little bit of something that I could. If y’all don’t mind, I’d like to contribute a little somethin’.”
He continued, “Every kid needs to have fun out there and I loved dirt bikes when I was a kid, so I’d love to contribute a dirt bike — if that’s OK with y’all.”
Immediately following, a brand new dirt bike was brought to the event and Liam hopped on it with pure joy.
“I like other people to feel good, and I don’t like to see any frowns on kid’s faces or anything like that, so this is the least we could do after I heard about this,” Scotty continued. “Thank y’all for jumping’ on this and doin’ good in the community — that’s what it’s all about.”
After receiving the dirt bike he started the lemonade for in the first place, and loads of support from his community, Liam decided it was his turn to pay it forward. On Friday, he donated all $2,631 raised during, “The World’s Largest Lemonade Stand,” to a local animal shelter, 2 The Rescue Animal Sanctuary.
Now that’s what we call turning lemons into lemonade!
