The Padres won their seventh game in a row, and finished off their second consecutive three-game sweep, with a 6-4 win over the Giants on Sunday. The Friars jumped out to a 5-0 lead thanks to their big hitters contributing early on. Jackson Merrill blasted a 2-run double with the bases loaded in the 1st inning, while in the second inning Fernando Tatis Jr. drove an RBI-single up the middle followed by a 2-run homer from Manny Machado. In his second game back from the IL, Nick Pivetta pitched fairly well, giving up a 2-run homer to Andrew Knizner in the bottom of the 2nd inning, before running into trouble in the 4th inning. Pivetta loaded the bases with just one out while trying to protect a 6-2 lead, but was able to escape the jam without giving up another run thanks to two flyouts. A throwing error from Xander Bogaerts made things sticky in the sixth inning, but the Giants were only able to cash in on one run, making it a 6-4 game. With both Adrian Morejon and Mason Miller unavailable due to recent usage, Craig Stammen turned to Randy Vasquez in the 8th inning, and he delivered a scoreless inning despite walking two batters. Yuki Matsui then came on to close things out in the 9th inning, and gave up just one hit but no runs to earn his first save of the season. The Padres now head to Coors Field for a series against the Rockies beginning on Monday.
