Former San Diego Padres broadcaster Bob Chandler joined the John Kentera Show on Friday to talk about the life of San Diego Padres Hall of Famer Nate Colbert.

Padres Hall of Famer and franchise home run leader Nate Colbert passed away on Thursday. The cause of his death has not been released. Colbert played in the Majors for 10 seasons, 6 of which were with the Padres from 1969-1974. He was selected by the Padres in the 1968 expansion draft after he spent time with the Astros, and played for the Padres in their inaugural season in 1969.

Colbert was a 3-time All-Star (1971-1973), hit 163 home runs and drove in 481 runs during his time with the Padres. Colbert played for the Astros, Padres, Tigers, Expos and A's during his MLB career.

Padres Chairman Peter Seidler released the following statement on the passing of Nate Colbert:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Padres Hall of Famer Nate Colbert. Our hearts go out to his wife, Kasey, and the entire Colbert family at this very difficult time. An original member of the Padres in 1969, Nate was a trailblazer in the San Diego sports community. He was a three-time National League All-Star in brown and gold and became the Padres all-time home run king (163), a record that still stands today. Nate was devoted to his community off the field as well, dedicating his time to disadvantaged youth through his ministry. He was a magnetic person who will be dearly missed.”
