The Padres earned their 89th victory of the season on Saturday night, beating the Diamondbacks 5-1 in the penultimate game of the regular season. Michael King made one last start before a potential postseason appearance, and struck out 3 over 2.2 scoreless innings, while allowing one hit and walking two batters.
Fernando Tatis Jr. blasted his 25th home run of the season to put the Padres up 1-0 in the first inning, his second home run in as many nights. Xander Bogaerts added a 2-run shot, giving the Padres a 3-run cushion through one inning. Elias Diaz added a 2-run homer in the 2nd inning, providing the Padres with all the offense they would need. The Friars will wrap up the regular season on Sunday against the Diamondbacks before flying to Chicago to face the Cubs in the Wild Card Series on Tuesday.
