JP Sears struggled in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Giants, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and a walk in just 3.2 innings. It could have been even worse had Fernando Tatis Jr. not robbed a 3-run homer off the bat of Rafael Devers in the 1st inning, that ended up resulting in just one run scoring on a tag up from third base. Daniel Susac hit a 2-run homer in the 2nd inning, providing the Giants all the offense they'd need. The Padres scored just one run against Robbie Ray, who efficiently navigated 6 innings on just 86 pitches. Randy Vasquez saved the bullpen, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings in relief.
