We are learning of all the surprises hidden inside the CARES act. One of them is a pleasant surprise for your flexible spending account (FSA). Now you can use it to purchase over-the-counter medications without a prescription, as well as menstrual care products, including pads, tampons, cups and liners. Previously, FSA money could be applied toward appointment co-pays and everything from acupuncture treatments to over-the-counter pain relievers. However your doctor would need to write a prescription for those medications and menstrual products were excluded. But now that the CARS Act is law, you are able to make those purchases with FSA funds and without much hassle. The change also affects Health Savings Accounts (HSA).
