LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - 5 officers with the North Las Vegas Police Department are on self -quarantine after they were exposed to a positive COVID-19 person last week.

A spokesman for the NLVPD says the officers encountered the suspect back on April 9th. That suspect began to show symptoms for COVID-19 two days later.

Once that was known, North Las Vegas Police Chief Pamela Ojeda contacted the city's Emergency Operations Center, and the officers were placed on 14-day paid administrative leave for their quarantine.

They're scheduled to remain on leave through April 24.

Though officers have been provided personal protection equipment, such as goggles, masks, gloves and sanitizer - which they must wear at all times when interacting with people- body camera footage showed the officers involved did not wear their provided PPE during the April 9 interaction.
