LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - The Clark County School District gave an update Thursday on the recent ransomware attack on its computer system.

Officials said yesterday that they did not pay the ransom demand that was made by the attackers. The district also said they are offering current employees free credit monitoring and identity restoration services.

Last Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported that a hacker has released sensitive information about both employees and students with the Clark County School District after the district refused to pay to have its hijacked files released.

The ransomware attack occured on August 24th, three days after online learing began for fall semester.

It's not known how much money was asked for to release the files. According to the WSJ, the hacker sent a warning on September 14th, then released increasingly sensitive information when the district didn't pay up.

The scope of what was released is said to include students' names, social security numbers, addresses, grades and some financial information.
