LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - The Clark County School District has been in "distance learning" mode since mid-March when Governor Steve Sisolak shut down schools in an attempt to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Depsite acquistion of thousands of Google Chromebooks for students to use, the district was having trouble reaching nearly one third of CCSD's student population.
Those numbers have improved, according to statistics released by the district Thursday during a meeting of the Clark County School District Board of Trustees..
Using stats gathered from the week of April 20th, the district said that the number of "students present" for distance learning was 250,931.
By comparison, for the previous week of April 13th, the district said that the number of "students present" for distance learning was 222,889. There are just over 324,000 students in the school district.
To date, the district has given out approximately 85,000 Chromebooks to date, with 157,000 available.
In recent weeks, CCSD attendance officers have been doing checks at homes of students who had not signed in to the distance learning platform, which might be a reason fpr the added student participation.
