LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation released the Jun unemployment numbers on Tuesday, and it's a "good news, bad news" situation.

The unemployment rate is about half of what it was in April, but still remains in double digits.

In Las Vegas, the unemployment rate for June dropped to 18%. The peak was around 34% in April.

Officials said that as resorts opened back up on June 4th, over 73-thousand jobs were filled as people returned to work. DETR says that since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, close to half of the jobs that were lost have returned.

Nevada's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June was 15 percent and the unadjusted rate was 15.2 - both down from an adjusted and unadjusted high of 30 percent in April.

“The month’s numbers reflect the significant impact of COVID-19 restrictions on employment and unemployment in the state and the rapid change we should expect once those restrictions can be safely lifted. While encouraging, it is important to remember that conditions have changed since the middle of June, and the evolving public health landscape and necessary restrictions may continue to impact Nevada’s labor market for several months to come,” said David Schmidt, Chief Economist for DETR
