Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Metro Police say they believe that impairment was a factor in a crash that killed a 64 year-old woman in the southeast valley on Thursday night.

It happened just before 7pm near the intersection of Eastern and Windmill. Police say the woman was crossing southbound Eastern outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the car.

Police say the driver, identified as 36 year-old Oliver Cairns, stopped and cooperated with investigators but police suspected impairment and placed him under arrest.

It's been a deadly start to 2021 on the roads. Thursday's incident was already the 6th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
