LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - A federal lawsuit has been filed by the family a man who was shot and killed by Metro police back on June 1st.
Jorge Gomez was killed in front of the Foley Federal Building downtown during the most violent night of Black Lives Matter protests. The Metro Police Department and four individual officers are named in the suit.
Police say that Gomez was dressed in full body armor carrying several weapons. They say that when orders were given to disperse, Gomez raised one of his weapons and pointed it at officers. That's when Gomez was shot.
Attorneys for the Gomez family want all video from the shooting scene turned over, but Metro says the officers involved in the shooting either weren't wearing body camers at the time, or didn't have them turned on.
Gomez was shot 19 times.
