The Clark County Commission as well as the City of Las Vegas Council met Wednesday morning to discuss enacting bans on backpacks and other items at protests and in certain locations.
Commissioners will look at amending county code to prohibit people from carrying certain items at public protests, demonstrations, rallies, picket lines and public assemblies.
Those items would include purses, luggage and similar items capable of concealing prohibited items during those demonstrations. Clark County ended debate by calling for additional review of the idea.
The City of Las Vegas chose to put a temporary ban in place, despite arguments the rules would limit protestor access to water, food and medical supplies.
The city order will expire on July 31.
