Las Vegas City Attorney Brad Jerbic announced Wednesday that he will be leaving his position on July 1. Jerbic has served as city attorney for nearly 28 years. He says he plans to work in the private sector following his departure from the city.
Jerbic will continue to work on "Project Enchilada", but he will receive no pay. The project is a revitalization of east Fremont Street, and has been a special one for Jerbic who grew up in Las Vegas. He has been part of the city team planning and directing the aspects.
Jerbic is the first city attorney to be appointed by the City Council. Prior to changes to the City Charter approved by the Nevada Legislature, city attorneys were elected for a time, or appointed by the city manager. In 1992, Jerbic was selected by the City Council. Today, the city attorney, the city manager and the city auditor are selected by the council and report directly to them as well.
Jerbic has spent 34 years in public service. Prior to becoming city attorney he served in the District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
