LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - It seems that lately more people are losing their jobs not because of performance issues, but because a machine might be able to do it faster and cheaper.

A new study shows that workers in Las Vegas are especially vulnerable when it comes to losing their jobs due to automation.

The study from Kempler Industries looked at jobs most likely to be taken over by automation, and Las Vegas/Henderson workers are most at risk. The Las Vegas/Henderson area ranked Number 1 in study, which says that one-third of workers here face the possibility of being replaced by machines.

The high numbers are due to the fact that there are so many service industry jobs in southern Nevada and those jobs are seen as the most vulnerable to automation. Specifically mentioned were cashiers, fast food workers, and retail salespeople.

The news was bleak for the state overall, as well, with Nevada ranked as the 2nd most vulnerable. Only South Dakota fared worse.
