LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - A Nevada man who faces murder charges in the shooting of a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper near Elko back in March now faces additional charges from Nye County.
The new charges against John Dabritz are related to unlawful possession of explosive or incendiary devices. Police say Dabritz had a residence in the northern part of Nye County
Of a much more serious nature, Dabritz currently faces a death penalty sentence in White Pine County for the killing of NHP Sgt. Ben Jenkins back on March 27th.
Jenkins had stopped to assist what he assumed was a stalled driver pulled off to the side of the road. After an initial cordial exchange, investigators say that Dabritz shot and killed Jenkins, then took his uniform and squad car.
He was arrested a short time later and is currently being held up in White Pine County.
Dabritz has yet to enter a plea in the shooting of Jenkins. He was recently ordered to undergo a mental evaluation at the state's main psychiatric care facility up in Sparks.
