LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Metro Police held a press conference on Monday to talk about an officer-involved shooting that involved a 93 year old man.
Officers were called to an apartment complex near Wynn and Viking last Thursday after an office worker called about a man who was having a confortation with a maintenance worker.
Arriving officers heard a shot being fired as they approached the management office.
Officer Ronald Hornyak and his partner advanced towards the office and observed a male, later identified as 93-year-old Robert Thomas, armed with a handgun standing over an injured male.
Officer Hornyak ordered Thomas to drop the gun and fired one round through a glass door striking Thomas’s jacket. Thomas then complied and placed the handgun down on a desk.
Officers entered the business and took Thomas into custody without further incident. Thomas was uninjured by the officer’s round, but received a small cut to his head while being handcuffed.
Thomas was treated and released from UMC Trauma and charged with the following crimes:
• Attempt Murder with Deadly Weapon
• Kidnap with Deadly Weapon
• Discharge Firearm within Structure
• Burglary with Firearm
• Carrying a Concealed Weapon
