NEASN Calling For Jesus Jara's Resignation

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - The National Education Association of Southern Nevada is calling for the resignation of Clark County School District Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the NEASN bluntly questioned Jara's ability to lead the district as it deals not only with ongoing budget deficits, but the impact of COVID-19 and the district's approach to how educating students will be handled in the upcoming fall semester.

National Edu Assn Of S. Nv Statement Calling For Resignation Of Jesus Jara

The call for Jara to resign comes amid a war of words that's developed between Jara, Governor Steve Sisolak and Nevada Education Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert over Assembly Bill 2.

The proposed bill would take leftover money from individual schools' budgets and apply it to cover the district's overall budget deficit. The two sides are disputing the origin of the bill, with the state saying it was Jara's idea, and Jara saying that it was a suggestion from the state.

That led to some heated tweets from the Governor on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a petition has begun that asks the CCSD Board of Trustees to “review the integrity, honesty, and leadership performance of the one employee it supervises, Superintendent Jesus Jara.”
