LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - In a classic tale of "good news/bad" news, in this age when everyone is being encouraged to stay home, the price for a gallon of gas is the cheapest that it's been in years.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Nevada is $2.37. That's down 7 cents from a week earlier and nearly $1 from a year earlier. In the Las Vegas Valley the average price was slightly higher Tuesday at $2.44 per gallon.

Despite the cheaper price, gas in Nevada is still more expensive than the national average if $1.80/gallon. Some stations in Wisconsin, where gas prices are cheapest, are selling gas for less than $1.00/gallon.

Factors combining to bring the prices down include the huge drop in oil prices and reduced demand.

Unemployment has skyrocketed meaning fewer people are driving to work. And for those still working, many are doing so from home.

Plus, if you do venture out...where do you go? In Nevada, casinos and non-essential businesses will remain closed by order of Governor Steve Sisolak until at least the end of April.
