
LAS VEGAS, NV (NV) - The 7th consecutive night of local marches protesting the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd's death in the custody of the that city's police department came off without any major problems Wednesday night.
Protesters with the group Black Lives Matter gathered near City Hall yesterday afternoon and marched through downtown. Marchers chanted toward and talked with Metro Police, but there were no major confrontations.
It was the second straight night of peaceful protests following the shooting of a Metro Police officer on Monday night.
Shay Mikolinas was shot in the head as he was attempting to disperse protesters in front of Circus Circus. Mikolinas is in critical condition after successful surgery to remove a bullet from his neck. The man accused in the shooting made his first court appearance on Wednesday and was ordered held without bail.
Four Minneapolis police officers face charges in the death of Floyd. Derek Chauvin faces second-degree murder charges. He's the officer seen on video with a knee on Floyd's neck for several minutes. An autopsy determined Floyd died of asphyxiation. He can be heard on the video saying that he couldn't breathe.
Three other officers involved in that called were charged on Wednesday with aiding and abetting in Floyd's death.
