LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Westbound Summerlin Parkway was closed at Rampart for several hours Tuesday afternoon after a pedestrian was struck by a Republic Services truck.

The accident happened around 2:30 in the afternoon.  Why the man, identified by NHP as 34-year-old Christopher Vandenbergen of Las Vegas, was walking on Summerlin Parkway is a matter that Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating.

Vandenbergen was transported to U.M.C. Trauma in critical condition, but died from his injuries on Wednesday morning.

During the closure, NHP was sending all of the westbound Summerlin Parkway traffic off at Rampart.

The driver of the Republic Services truck stayed on scene. Impairment is not suspected. The crash remains under investigation.
