LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Upping the ante from his request earlier this week that all non-essential businesses close in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, Governor Steve Sisolak issued an order making the closure of non-essential businesses mandatory.

The closure begins at midnight tonight, and lasts through April 16th.

During his 15 minute adress, Sisloak expressed frustration with the federal government for the lack of supplies the state needs for testing and treatment, and urged all politicians to be on the same page.

The Governor expresses concern that state hospitals don't have enough beds and ventilators needed to handle a crush of patients should drastic distancing measures not be taken, explaining that only 20% of state hospital beds and ventilators are currently available.

Under Sisiloak's directive, local governments were given the authority to fine and/or revoke the license of a non-essential business that refuses to comply with the closure order.

The Givernor discouraged people from calling 911 to report a non-essential business that's staying open, saying that that number should continue to be used for emergencies only
