LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Close to 300,000 people have filed unemployment claims with the Nevada's Department Of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) since Governor Sisolak ordered non-esstential businesses and casinos closed in mid March to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Many of those people reported problems with the system, whether they went online or by phone.

Governor Sisloak admitted that the original design of the DETR system wasn't set up to handle the sudden surge in claims, and ordered improvements made. In addition, over 100 full time workers were brought in to handle calls and questions.

This week, A new call center opened to help answer questions about unemployment in Nevada.

DETR says the call center will help with general questions about the filing process, not questions specific to your situation.

The call center will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and can be reached toll-free at (800) 603-9671.
