LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Two Nevada utiilities have put in separate requests to adjust rates for its customers.

One wants to take, while the other wants to give back.

Southwest Gas is asking the Nevada Public Utilities Commission permission to increase its revenue by just over $35 million. If permission is granted by the P.U.C., that would mean the average residential customer's monthly bill would see a bump of around $4 per month.

Southwest Gas says the rate hike is necessary "because of a change in the cost of capital, updated costs related to capital investments and incremental expenses related to its Customer Data Modernization Initiative, which would replace outdated customer data systems"

On the other end of the spectrum, NV Energy will present a plan to the P.U.C. that would result is residential power bills dropping.

Next month, the utility plans to file a $120 million reduction propsal for customers in Southern Nevada. If approved, the reduction would go into effect Jan. 1, 2021.

It would mark the third rate reduction that NV Energy has done since last April.
