
LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Thousands turned out Thursday afternoon for a fund-raiser to benefit wounded Metro Police officer Shay Mikalonis.
Proceeds from the "Shay Day" event, put on by the Injured Police Officers Fund, will go the the family of Mikalonis. Mikalonis was shot in the head back on June 1st while attempting to disperse a protest group in front of Circus Circus.
The event took place at the West Sahara Urgent Care location on Sahara and Jones. Initial estimates say more than $83,000 was raised for the Mikalonis family
Mikalonis remains in critical condition at U.M.C. He's currently on a ventilator to help him breathe.
The person accused of shooting Mikalonis is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center. Edgar Samaniego's preliminary hearing is set for July 30th.
