Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Las Vegas Metro Police have charged a woman in the death of her 4 year-old stepson.

Last Friday night, medical personnel were called to a residence located in the 1900 block of North Walnut Road for a report of an unresponsive four-year-old boy. The child was transported to UMC Pediatrics where he was pronounced dead. Physicians examining the victim found injuries consistent with abuse.

The investigation by the LVMPD Abuse Neglect Section indicates that the boy was left home with his stepmother, 29-year-old Patricia Atalig, while his father was at work. When the victim’s father came home, he found his son unresponsive and called for help.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined the child had sustained a head injury earlier that afternoon. As a result, Atalig was arrested and transported to CCDC for Open Murder and Child Abuse Resulting in Death. She is expected to make her first court appearance on Tuesday.

Police are asking anyone with more information about this incident to contact the LVMPD Abuse Neglect Section at 702-828-3364.
