Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - The Clark County School District has released a plan that would give students and teachers the option to return to in-person learning beginning in January.
Clark County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara and staff will present the Plan to Transition to the Hybrid Instructional Model for consideration and possible action to the CCSD Board of School Trustees. The Board will discuss and possibly vote on the plan at the regular meeting scheduled for this Thursday at 5 p.m. The plan outlines information about the return of students and staff to schools and district buildings to continue instruction under a hybrid model, based on the plan tentatively approved by Trustees in July. “The well being of our students is one of our highest priorities,” said CCSD Board of School Trustees President Lola Brooks. “The Board of School Trustees will consider multiple factors as we review the transition plan being proposed by staff. The Board appreciates all the time and energy staff continues to dedicate to this challenging task and recognizes the importance of a thorough plan to address health and safety concerns. The transition plan will be discussed in greater detail during our meeting on Nov. 12.”
CCSD staff worked to address requests and concerns presented by Trustees during previous discussions about the return to the physical classroom.
“This plan follows the health and safety guidelines provided for schools but also gives our children the opportunity to address academic gaps and engage with their peers and adult educators,” said Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara. “We must embrace this work with a relentless sense of urgency. Our children are depending on us.”
The proposed 200-page plan includes information on various topics including, the hybrid education model, which consists of face-to-face instruction for two days and three days of distance education for students each week. Parents will also have the option to remain in full-time distance education, if they choose. The plan also details the cleaning of schools and district buildings, along with bus transportation plans for students. The process to inform parents and employees of COVID-19 cases, and those with symptoms at their respective schools and work sites, is described in the plan as well.
It is important to note that this is a proposed plan and its content is not final. The dates in the plan regarding employees and students returning to campuses and work sites may be adjusted and could change based on evolving health conditions and forthcoming information.
The District is also launching the COVID-19 Positive Cases Dashboard, which allows students, parents, staff and the public to locate and identify which schools and work locations have had or currently have positive COVID-19 cases. Cases displayed on the dashboard are cumulative cases tracked since March 16, 2020, for staff and students.
Data utilized to update the dashboard are based on internally confirmed and self-reported COVID-19 positive lab results. The dashboard does not make a distinction between students who are in distance education, hybrid or face-to-face instruction models.
