Four Officers Recovering After Hotel Fire

(LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Four Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers were taken to the hospital during a two alarm fire at the Siegel Suites on North Las Vegas Boulevard Friday morning. The officers were evacuating the building after it caught fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire dispatchers received the call for the fire on Las Vegas Boulevard and Bonaza just after 10:30 on Friday morning.

When firefighters arrived on scene, an apartment on the third floor of the three story apartment building was showing heavy fire and smoke. Prior to the arrival of firefighters, police arrived on scene and starting evacuating the complex. Just after getting everyone out, one of the officers collapsed. The officer was immediately treated by paramedics and taken to University Medical Center for possible minor smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion. Later three additional officers, who also assisted in the evacuation, were examined by paramedics and then taken to the hospital to be checked out. The other officers also had cuts and possibly a minor burn. None of the injuries were life threatening.

Firefighters confined the fire to the one apartment. The cause of the fire is under investigation, fire investigators believe the fire started around the stove in the kitchen.

Damage was estimated at $50,000. The American Red Cross was on scene to see if anyone would need assistance.

Firefighters from North Las Vegas and Clark County Fire Departments also assisted at the fire.

There were no injuries reported to firefighters or residents.
