LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - The City of Henderson has released the results of a recent economic impact study and analysis of the proposed Henderson Event Center. If approved, the center would replace the Henderson Pavilion on Green Valley Parkway and Paeo Verde with a 6,000-seat enclosed venue that would be used for events of all kinds, including serving as the game day home of an American Hockey League team owned by an affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights.

The economic impact study, developed by Applied Analysis, Southern Nevada’s leading market research firm, indicates the following:

Ongoing operations of a proposed 6,000-seat enclosed venue that would be programmed with approximately 34 minor league hockey games annually and dozens of community events, including high school and college graduations, cultural and performing arts productions by groups such as the Henderson Symphony Orchestra and other events would:

  • Generate annual economic impact between $17.2 and $26 million
  • Generate annual wages and salaries of venue personnel between $6.3 and $9.4 million
  • Generate between 159 and 234 jobs annually

“As Henderson recovers from the COVID-19 crisis, there is no better time for City leadership to step up to the plate,” said Richard Derrick, City Manager/CEO, City of Henderson.  “Investment in our community creates jobs now and in the future, drives additional investment, builds on the existing vibrancy of The District – Henderson’s premier retail/dining/entertainment destination, and fulfills the potential of what was originally envisioned for the Pavilion as a place for families and friends to enjoy concerts, sports and community events year-round.”

The economic impact study follows the release last week of the results of a statistically valid survey conducted by Discovery Nevada, an independent market research firm and a partnership of Applied Analysis and Discovery Research Group. The survey found that:

  • 71 percent of Henderson residents believe the project, as proposed, would be good for Henderson
  • 71 percent thought a minor league hockey team would be good for the City
  • 69 percent of respondents either “strongly support” or “somewhat support” the redevelopment of the Henderson Pavilion into an enclosed, 6,000-seat entertainment venue

“A public-private partnership with the VGK organization and the City of Henderson is the very reason the proposed Henderson Event Center could even become reality,” Derrick said. “The VGK organization would be making a significant matching investment commitment that would help to create a first-class venue not just for hockey, but scores of other events for the benefit of the entire community.  It addresses an immediate need to remediate and improve the Pavilion which has been plagued for years with significant issues related to its design that also limit the volume and types of events it can host because of its outdoor, open-air construction.”

A virtual town hall was held by the city on Wednesday.

According to Robert Herr, Assistant City Manager/Chief Infrastructure Officer, City of Henderson, the proposed Henderson Event Center would be designed to accommodate approximately 6,000 people and its physical footprint would be very close in size to the footprint of the existing Pavilion. “This new venue would further enhance our residents’ qualify of life by offering year-round programming while maintaining access to nearby community assets including the Paseo Verde Library, the Henderson Multigenerational Center and the nearby West Henderson Police Station,” said Herr.

“We are committed to a design that would be compatible with the area that includes more onsite parking, expedited traffic improvements, outdoor enhancements and the addition of onsite amenities,” he said.
