LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Per authorization from the Colonel of the Nevada Highway Patrol, Colonel Dan Solow has authorized all State Troopers statewide to begin wearing a Sgt Ben Jenkins Memorial Patch on the Nevada Highway Patrol uniform.
State Troopers are authorized to wear one Sgt Jenkins memorial patch on the right shoulder of the duty uniform for a period of one year until the conclusion of National Police Week 2021 in Washington D.C. The expiration of the patch authorization coincides with National Police Week 2021 where all fallen officers’ names from 2020 will be permanently added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. commemorating each fallen officer’s sacrifice and service.
Sgt. Jenkins was shot and killed near Elko back on March 27th after pulling over to help what he thought was a stalled car. The driver of that car, John Dabritz, shot and killed Jenkins but was apprehended a short distance away from the crime scene.
The Sgt Jenkins Memorial Patch will be made available to the public while supplies last through the Nevada Injured Police Officers Fund (IPOF) website. The cost of each patch is $10 plus shipping, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Jenkins Family. https://ipof.vegas/
These patches will be available on the IPOF website once non-essential businesses are permitted to open to allow for the patches to be shipped countrywide. Anyone who may be interested in a patch is encouraged to check back regularly on the IPOF website. Once these patches are gone they will no longer be available.
