LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) convened government, corporate and nonprofit leaders to develop a consolidated Nonprofit Sector plan to respond effectively to the current Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) crisis.
Through the support of NV Energy, Bank of America and the Wells Fargo Foundation, UWSN is launching the UWSN Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund to assist those impacted by COVID-19. To donate, visit uwsn.org/donate or text "UWSNFUND" to 313131.
"As your United Way of Southern Nevada, it's our role to stand in the center of our community and bring together community partners to provide solutions and support for those who need it most," said UWSN President and CEO, Kyle B. Rahn. "We are actively identifying the greatest needs and are galvanizing all community resources to help our community get through this challenging time."
UWSN created a map to define how local nonprofit organizations are providing resources and identify gaps in services and is providing necessary information and resources to deploy nonprofit workforce and volunteers to support wraparound services while keeping employees and volunteers healthy and safe.
“The coronavirus outbreak is creating unprecedented challenges in our community and we appreciate and support efforts of the United Way of Southern Nevada, Bank of America, NV Energy and the Wells Fargo Foundation to work with nonprofit agencies throughout Southern Nevada to address the needs of our citizens,” said Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones, chair of the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition. “We are a strong and resilient community, and we will recover from this crisis. One way people can also help to put us on the road to recovery is to participate in the 2020 U.S. Census online or by phone. It’s more important than ever that Nevada’s entire population is counted in the census so we get the funding and representation we deserve from Washington. Visit the Southern Nevada Counts website for more information about the census and why it’s important for our community.”
To ensure all donated funds are distributed to needs resulting from the COVID-19 virus and this state of emergency, Bank of America is covering all of their administrative fees and underwriting expenses related to the Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund account so that 100% of the donations go to local needs.
