2 dead in separate auto-pedestrian accidents

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Las Vegas Metro Police are investigating a pair of fatal auto-pedestrian accidents.

The first happened late Wednesday on Nellis between Owens and Lake Mead. Police say two drivers were racing each other when one of them struck a pedestrian who was walking in an implied crosswalk.

The driver that struck the pedestrian, identified as 25-year old Duglas Esteban-Chacon, stayed on scene and showed no signs of impairment but was later arrested on reckless driving charges.

The second incident happened just after 2am at Sahara and Valley View. In that case, police say the driver fled after hitting intentionally hitting a person with whom she had had a brief interaction with. the pedestrian. 24-year-old Mariana Armenta-Jauriqui was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon.

The name of the driver in that incident hasn’t been released, nor have the names of either of the victims.
