Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - A standoff that lasted for more than a day at a motel in the south part of the valley ended peacefully Thursday afternoon when the suspect surrendered.

According to Las Vegas Metro Police, around 10:30 Wednesday morning, Metro officers found a stolen motorcycle at the Highland Inn Motel on Dean Martin Drive just north of Blue Diamond Road. As an officer was conducting the investigation, an Hispanic male wearing a motorcycle helmet exited a room and attempted to get on the motorcycle.

A struggle ensued as the officer attempted to take the suspect into custody. The officer noticed a handgun inside the suspects jacket and the officer created distance. The suspect went back into his hotel room. Due to the suspect refusing to exit and being armed with a handgun, the situation was then considered a barricade.

Officers evacuated the motel as a precaution while crisis negotiators and SWAT were requested in an attempt to deescalate the situation.

Through the course of the barricade, officers learned the suspect had entered an adjacent room, where a four-year-old boy and young woman were staying. The suspect allowed the officers to retrieve the child from one of the rooms but did not allow the female to exit.

During that time SWAT and Crisis Negotiators continued to speak to the man. The suspect continued to barricade for over 24 hours before allowing the female to exit the room. Two hours after he released the woman, the suspect was taken into custody by SWAT.

The suspect was transported to the Clark County Detention Center where he faces charges for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting with a deadly weapon, carrying a conceal weapon, stolen vehicle, kidnapping, and attempt murder on a police officer.
