Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) –For the third time in a week, classes were canceled at a Clark County School District school because too many teachers and staff called out sick.
Wednesday, it was Monaco Middle School’s turn to shut it down for the day. Tuesday, Gibson Elementary School in Henderson stayed closed.
On Friday, the Southeast Career Technical Academy canceled classes.
Southeast was back in session on Tuesday. Classes resumed at Gibson on Wednesday.
CCSD has made no secret of a staffing shortage in the district, and there weren’t enough substitutes available to fill the gaps.
As in the other two cases, it wasn’t known how many staff members at Monaco called off.
The district and the teachers’ union in in the middle of contentious contract negotiations, but the union has said the incidents had nothing to do with earlier threats that teachers might take ”work actions” should a contract agreement fail to be reached.
