Baby sitter arrested in death of young child makes first court appearance

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Las Vegas Metro Police have arrested a baby-sitter in connection with the stabbing death of a three-year-old girl early Wednesday.

The incident took place at an apartment complex near Flamingo and Eastern.

Police said that they received a call from the father of the little girl around 3:30am reporting the stabbing.

When police arrived at the apartment they took the child to Sunrise Hospital, but she died from her wounds

The baby-sitter, who police say lived at the residence, was arrested a short distance away after fleeing the scene. She was later identified as 41-year-old Marketta Phillips. Phillips has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder
