23-year-old Laurren Courtney was sentenced to life in prison in the death of Ryan James Paralta. She’ll be eligible for parole after serving 20 years.

Courtney had pled guilty to first-degree murder charges back in October, after initially trying to blame the boy’s injuries on his father. In October of 2021, Courtney was caught on home video severely beating the boy. Cameras had been installed at the home after the boy’s sister had told him that Courtney had hurt the boy. She said she lost control after the boy had an accident.

Courtney will receive credit for the nearly 650 days she’s already spent behind bars.
