Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Faced with an aging fleet of patrol vehicles, the Boulder City Police Department announced this week that they would be purchasing five electric vehicles to quietly roam the streets.

Funds for the quintet will be paid for with funds from the American Recovery Plan Act. The vehicles are two Tesla Model Ys, two Tesla Model 3s and a Ford Mustang Mach-E.
The department says that while the purchase of the five EVs is more expensive than purchasing new gas powered vehicles, money will be saved over time due to gas and maintenance savings.
Department chief Timothy Shea says he’s talked to officers and other police chiefs across the country about their experiences with EVs. “This pilot program means that we can do an in-depth look at the EVs and determine if they are a good fit for our department,”
The cars aren’t out on the streets just yet, as they still need to be outfitted for daily use.
