Cause of Mt. Charleston Lodge fire may take weeks to determine

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Investigators were trying Monday to piece together what led to the fire that destroyed the restaurant at Mt. Charleston Lodge early Friday.

Authorities believe it will take several more days or even weeks to determine the official cause.

Locals call the lodge a landmark that was a piece of Las Vegas history.

Investigators say that the blaze that decimated the lodge broke out in a store room under the patio deck of the lodge, but what caught fire first isn’t known. Nobody was inside at the time. Firefighters successfully kept flames from spreading to nearby cabins and trees.

The lodge owners say they will rebuild and are working to place employees with jobs in other properties that they own.
