Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – The tumultuous tenure of Clark County School Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara ends Friday.
This, after the CCSD Board of Trustees voted 5-2 Thursday to accept Jara’s resignation and buy out the remainder of his contract, at a price of $250,000.
The Board named long-time CCSD employee Brenda Larson-Mitchell as interim superintendent, effective 5pm Friday.
Jara was named CCSD superintendent in 2018, and it’s been a rocky run to say the least, marked by battles with the board, teachers unions, and parents over matters such as his handling of the district during the COVID-19 pandemic, threats of a strike, and costly recruitment trips to hire new staff.
Jara was even fired by the school board in 2021, only to have that overturned shortly weeks later after one of the board members changed her mind
The next matter for the board to decide is how to go about hiring Jara’s successor. A meeting will be held next month to discuss how to proceed.
