Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Classes for the Clark County School District’s fall semester begin Monday, but tensions between the district and its teachers’ union hitting a boiling point.
On Monday, CCSD said it had filed an injunction in district court to prevent the Clark County Education Association (CCEA) from striking.
The school district said its decision was based on what they termed as "CCEA's threats", which it said were reiterated over the weekend that if a contract was not reached by August 26th, the union would engage in "work actions".
A release sent out by CCSD on Monday afternoon said that they took the words “work actions” to mean a strike.
CCSD also said that it filed a petition with the Employee-Management Relations Board (EMRB) to withdraw CCEA’s bargaining agent status as the representative for CCSD’s licensed professional employees.
Negotiations on a new contract are set to resume on August 17th.
