LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Clark County school district’s board first voted to fire the district superintendent before it then reversed itself and undid Jesus Jara’s termination, and now he’s agreed to stay in the job he’s held since 2018.
The district board on Oct. 28 voted 4-3 to fire Jara “for convenience” but then rescinded the firing on Nov. 18 when one member changed her vote.
Jara announced in a statement late Friday that he will return to work Monday as superintendent after reaching an agreement “with the majority of the board on the best path forward for the 305,000 students of Clark County.”
The district has seen “too many adult-centered distractions that caused instability for our students, parents, and our team,” Jara said “That is unacceptable; and now is the time to move forward.”
The district board confirmed the agreement in a separate statement and said it would “continue striving for a more collaborative, respectful, and supportive board and superintendent relationship.”
After the termination, Jara alleged harassment and creation of a hostile work environment by some trustees.
On Friday, Jara said he’d received assurances and that there would be clear boundaries between his management duties and the board’s oversight responsibilities.
Jara’s contract runs through Jan. 15, 2023.
