Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - One month after announcing an agreement with Red Rock Resorts on a deal to build a stadium, the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday announced an agreement with Ballys Corp. to build that stadium on land where the Tropicana Hotel currently sits.
There’s no change to what the design of the stadium would be, one with a partially retractable roof and a seating capacity of around 35,000.
Under terms of the new agreement, the Tropicana Hotel would come down, and in its place, Ballys would have the option to build a new hotel on the land being acquired by the Athletics.
Less public funding would be in play with the new site: $395 million, as opposed to the roughly $500 million for the first site that was discussed on Tropicana just west of I-15.
Where the public funding would come from still isn’t known. The plan for the original site called for a special tax district around stadium that would generate revenue to finance the ballpark.
