Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A man convicted of killing his girlfriend’s young son four years ago has learned how much time he’ll spend in jail.

On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Terrell Rhodes to 20 years to life in prison, but he’ll be eligible for parole after 22 years served.

Rhodes admitted to police that he killed 2-year-old Amari Nicholson back in May of 2021, beating the child for urinating on himself.

Nicholson originally told police that a woman claiming to be a family member took the boy, which led to a community-wide search. That ended when the boy’s body was found not far away from where Rhodes and his girlfriend lived.

Rhodes was not only charged with killing Amari and hiding his body near a dumpster, but of assaulting a police officer and briefly taking her gun while in one of Metro Police’s interrogation rooms.
