Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Bail was set at $250,000 for a Las Vegas corrections officers who police say fled the scene after striking and killing a pedestrian.
The incident happened early Sunday at Decatur and Alta. Las Vegas Metro Police say that Maurice Washington hit a man who was crossing the street. They say that the victim, while in a marked crosswalk, was crossing against the light when they were struck.
Investigators say that Washington's car broke down not far away from the scene and he eventually chose to return and surrender to police.
In setting the bail, the judge said that such an amount was necessary because she deemed Washington a flight risk. She said that the only reason he returned to the scene was because his car had broken down.
Washington is facing charges of DUI, reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily injury, hit-and-run, and displaying a bogus vehicle registration, plate, or title.
