Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - It’s out with the old and in with the new – again – on the Las Vegas Strip.

The Clark County Commission on Wednesday approved the new design submitted by Hard Rock International as they re-work the look of what, for now, is the Mirage.

The county approved the centerpiece of the plan – a 542-foot-tall guitar that will house 600 rooms and a giant casino. The guitar will be built on what is now the Mirage volcano.

Because of the guitar’s height, Hard Rock will have to receive a waiver from the Federal Aviation Administration before it can be built.

The structure will include 36 levels with occupied rooms within the tower, which will rise above a 105-foot base structure, reaching a height of 660 feet "for additional architectural features to mimic the neck of the guitar. The plan also includes a plan for more than 4,500 additional parking spaces and multiple "potential" pedestrian bridges over existing driveways on the property.
